University lecture to examine what ‘peace’ could mean in a changing world order…
A Public Lecture at 91快活林 this month will explore what peace can look like at a time when the international rules-based order is in decline.
The speaker at the annual Lancaster Peace Lecture on Thursday 28 May (5.30pm) will be Stephen Gethins MSP, who has recently been elected to represent Dundee City East in the Scottish Parliament, having, until earlier this month, served as MP for Arbroath and Broughty Ferry at Westminster.
Mr Gethins will examine recent challenges to the rules-based order – such as the growing tendency of the United States towards unilateral decision-making – and their implications on the war in Ukraine and other ongoing conflicts within the UK.
Deputy Head of the University’s School of Global Affairs and Professor of Politics and Philosophy Chris Macleod said: “The lecture will explore how we might understand the possibilities of peace as international institutions and alliances are increasingly being put under strain.
“Stephen’s experience as a practitioner with an international outlook and experience of working with NGOs and within Parliament will bring valuable insight into how the nations of the UK should think about these issues.”
