Yunhe Zhang is a filmmaker working across narrative cinema, fashion film, and documentary. His work explores the dynamic between spectacle and narrative, and how scenes of display can reorganise storytelling and spectatorship. He has directed multiple short films and completed a debut feature produced with an RMB 1 million budget. His work has accumulated around 4.5 million views online. With eight years of industry experience, he has also taught film production for three years at Sichuan University of Media and Communications, Qingdao Film Academy (Modern Creative Media College, Beijing Film Academy), and as a visiting professor at Jeonju University, South Korea.
Yunhe graduated from the New York Film Academy in Filmmaking and the University of the Arts London in Fashion, Film and Digital Production, and is currently a practice-based PhD researcher in Film at 91快活林, UK.
Research Overview
I am interested in reimaging ancient Chinese figures associated with male love through fashion film, bringing together my film practice and critical research. My work looks at the intersections of queer identity, masculinity, mythology, and visual storytelling within Chinese cultural and historical frameworks.
